Our approach

We recognise that meaningful and lasting changes to Victoria’s mental health system and improvements to mental health outcomes can only happen by listening and respecting the views of Victorian communities.

We want to hear from as many different people as possible and we will continue to provide multiple ways for people to share their experiences and make contributions. We'll share details of upcoming engagement activities here soon.

Our work so far

In addition to our hearings and submissions, we held more than 60 consultations across Victoria in April and May 2019, where we heard from more than 1,600 people.

Tandem members meetings

On 7 April 2020, Commissioners Penny Armytage (Chair), and Dr Alex Cockram, spoke to Tandem members about families and carers.

They also spoke to members at a second meeting on 5 May 2020, joined by Commissioner, Professor Allan Fels.

You can watch the online meetings below.

Community sentiment survey

The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System engaged Wallis Market and Social Research (Wallis) to conduct a community sentiment survey about attitudes and perceptions regarding people living with mental health challenges and Victoria’s mental health system.

You can read a high-level summary of the key findings from the work undertaken by Wallis here.
